10,368. Albe, E. E. r. d'. April 27. Blind persons, communicating with.-Apparatus is provided for enabling blind persons to read ordinary letterpress by means of sounds. This apparatus comprises a disk a having a series of concentric circles of perforations or of alternate transparent and opaque portions, which is rotated in front of a line source of light e, for example a Nernst lamp, so as to furnish an intermittent line of luminous dots of different frequencies. This line is projected by an optical system through an opening i upon the letterpress j, the light reflected from the letterpress falling upon selenium or other lightsensitive substance h connected to a telephone receiver n. The sheet of letterpress is carried by feed-rollers which are mounted in a frame traversed across the opening i by rack-andpinion gear.
