Abstract

10,213. Sicklen, N. H. van. April 24. Associated counters, trip and like; counters with reducing gear.-Motion is derived from a vehicle-driven shaft through two sets of worm gearing 17, 18 and 19<a>, 21, Fig. 3, and a pinion 23 engaging a wheel 24 carried by a shaft 25, one end of which is supported by a bracket 26 and the other by the end of a fixed shaft 25<b>. An eccentric 24<a>, Figs. 1 and 5, formed on the wheel 24, has mounted thereon an epicyclic wheel 30 adapted to engage interior teeth of the first numeral drum a, rotation being prevented by a slot 30<a> in the wheel engaged by a pin 31<c> carried by a fixed bracket 31 sprung upon the shaft 25<b>. Transfer between the higher drums is by internal single-toothed Geneva gearing carried by brackets similar to the bracket 31. The trip indicator, which is arranged to show tenths of miles, miles, and tens of miles, is driven from the shaft 25 through a split sleeve 40 thereon, caused to grip an external sleeve A' when a conical-ended piece 42 is screwed inwards. Mounted on the flange A<4> of the sleeve A<1> is the drum A indicating tenths of miles, the other drums being driven by single-toothed Geneva transfer pinions mounted similarly to those of the main counter. Zeroizing-mechanism.-The trip indicator may be reset bv screwing out the part 42 until the shaft 25 can be rotated. This operation may be performed more quickly through the lower transfer pinion, which is provided with a second set of teeth 50<b> separated by a groove 50<c>, Fig. 8, from the driving-teeth 50<a>. Internal teeth A<2> of the drum A normally engage the groove 50<c>; but when the sleeve A' is moved outwards, these teeth engage the teeth 50<b>, and the units and tens drums can be rotated from the sleeve A'.
