Abstract
417,779. Range finders. ZEISS, C., [Firm of], Carl-Zeiss-Strasse, Jena, Germany. May 30, 1934, No. 16069. Convention date, June 3, 1933. [Class 97 (i).] In a measuring device for a range-finder, comprising a pair of glass wedges driven from a single operating shaft so as to rotate through equal angles in opposite senses, the rotation of the shaft is transmitted to the wedges by inextensible traction members, such as steel bands or wires, extending between cylindrical mountings for the wedges and auxiliary rotatable cylindrical members. In the form shown the mounts a, b of the wedges c, d are connected to cylindrical members e, f by steel bands g, h secured to the mounts and to the outer races i, k of ball bearings of which the inner races l form non-rotatable nuts engaging screws n, o. The screws are both operated by the head t, one directly and the other through spur gearing u, so that they rotate through equal angles in opposite senses. In a modification, a cylindrical member secured to the operating spindle is connected to the mounts a, b by two steel bands, one of open form and the other of crossed form.
