Abstract
10,194. Biddlecombe, F. G. L. May 1, 1915. Air-pressure sprayers; nozzles for producing whirling sprays.-A nozzle for use in spraying liquid fuel either in a gas generator or carburettor, comprises a central pipe E for liquid fuel and an air chamber H annular internally and square externally, which, in the form shown in Fig. 1, surrounds the upper end of the pipe. This chamber is closed at the bottom and open at the top, where it is contracted to form an annular slit Y. In the wall of the chamber H are one or more tangential ducts K communicating with external air, and the whole is enclosed in a chamber L attached to the float chamber. Air drawn through the ducts K gives a whirling motion to fuel drawn through the pipe E. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the apparatus is inverted and the pipe E closed at its lower end; fuel passes through the hole R down the outside of the tube, where it receives a whirling motion. The method of using the nozzle is described in Specification 10,305/13, [Class 55 (ii), Gas manufacture &c.].
