Abstract

9031. Walther, Reinhold Freiherr von. April 10, 1913, [Convention date]. Liquids, purifying; filtering-media. - Water is treated to remove oxygen by passing it over, or filtering it through, easily oxidizable metals or alloys, such as iron, manganese, aluminium, zinc, or copper, either in their normal condition or after the metals have been purified by treatment with acids or have been " rendered active." Hydroxides produced are retained by filtration, or periodically removed by spraying, and dissolved iron, for example ferrous oxide, by filtering in contact with carbonate of lime or " permutite." Oxide forming a coating on the metals may be removed by treatment with acids.
