24,259. British Thomson-Houston Co., [General Electric Co.]. Nov. 1. Asbestos.-Commercial asbestos containing a difficultly-soluble metallic oxide, such as magnetite, is treated with oxalic acid. This reduces the magnetite to a lower oxide or to metallic iron, which is dissolved by the acid. The soluble salt is washed out with water.
