Abstract
7953. Wholey, T. J. March 30. Force-feed lubricators.-In a device for lubricating the wheel flanges of locomotives, comprising a stick 15 of solid lubricant contained in a barrel 1 and pressed against the wheel flange by a spring 16, the end of the barrel is closed by a flanged cap 6, the edge of which is formed with a number of notches 7 and with recesses 9 in the intermediate parts 8 to receive projections. 5 formed on the barrel. A spring 10 bearing against a shoulder 4 holds the cap in position. To remove the cap, it is pressed in against the spring 10 and then turned until the notches 7 come opposite to the projections 5, whereupon it can be withdrawn. The spring 16 bears against the cap 6, and a chain 17 for retracting the follower 13 passes through a hole 18 in the cap: A ring 19 and pin 20 enable the chain to be drawn back and adjusted. The barrel 1, by means of a spindle 2, is adjustably mounted on an adjustable bracket secured to the frame of the locomotive.
