Abstract

7394. Spiers, W. March 24. Circular machines.-Relates to making automatically fast welts on circular rib latch-needle machines. The ribbing-needles are put out of action and the welt is knitted on the cylinder needles, the first course or two being made of alternate plain and tuck loops. To produce the tuck loops, alternate needles are made longer and the long needles are operated by a cam c, Fig. 1, which is put in an out of action automatically. When making ordinary work, the needles are operated by a cam d which is put out of action when making the tuck work. The alternate needles may have an extra butt and be moved by a cam e, Fig. 2, put in and out of action automatically. The needles may have latches of different length as shown in Fig. 3, so that some may clear and some may not clear; in this case, either the clearing-cam d or the clearing-plate h may be automatically adjustable. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 5597/88.
