Abstract
1,072,896. Knitting. BENTLEY ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. July 21, 1965 [July 23, 1964], No. 29217/64. Headings D1C and D1K. When knitting hose having heel pouches on a four feed circular machine, the heel pouches are formed by rotary knitting. The pouches comprise alternate complete and partial courses, and the ends of each partial course are locked to adjoining fabric by tuck stitches and intervening miss stitches. Partial courses are knitted by a group of needles H selected to knit at alternate feeds, e.g. 11. Spaced needle jacks 6 at the ends of the group are provided with nibs 6a overlapping several jacks. As the jacks 6 are raised they engage the butts 6b on some of the overlapped jacks to raise higher butts onto tuck cam 17. Needles associated with intervening jacks without butts 6b are not raised, and miss the yarn. The group of needles are raised prior to the next station to engage splicing yarn at feed 21 which is thus knit over the same extent as the partial courses. The partial courses together with any splicing may extend under the foot; and the length of such courses may be increased and/or decreased progressively. The base may be knit in a micromesh structure that be continued in the heel by selecting needles to tuck at the fourth station 12, and knitting on all needles at the second station.
