Abstract
A circular knitting machine for the production of hosiery and the like goods, is provided in at least one knitting feed with a reinforcing thread guide 1 whose throat in operating position is just below the hooks of the latch needles in track G1 and in the bridge 3 of the knitting feed there is a recess 32 into which fits the throat of the reinforcing thread guide in operating position. This prevents engagement of the throat, formed as a tube, with needle latches which are in closed position, e.g. owing to a broken thread. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Circular knitting machine
The present invention relates to a circular knitting machine for the production of hosiery and the like goods, the circular knitting machine being provided in at least one knitting feed with a reinforcing thread guide to supplythe thread, while the throat ofthe reinforcing thread guide in the operating position is just below the hooks of latch needles.
In the production of hosiery and like goods, it is known that the supply ofthe reinforcing threads into selected needles in the reinforcing zone and reliable disengagement of the thread presents some problems. Because the difference in the tracks of selected and non-selected needles is too small, it is necessary for the provision of a secure supply to adjustthethroat ofthe reinforcing thread guide just belowthe hooks of selected needles. There is the requirement that in the placewhere the hooks come into contact with supplied thread, the thread must already securely lie on the internal side of the needle stems so that during the following raising ofthe needle it must slide behind the hook. The disadvantage of said arrangement is that in case of a closed latch ofthe needle, the needle will be damaged bythetube ofthe guide as happens in thecaseofthread breakage.
A circular knitting machineforthe production of hosiery goods is known, where the above problem is solved so that the throat ofthe reinforcing thread guide in the operating position is adjusted just above the heads of reinforcing needles and offthe external arc ofthe needle heads track, while safe catching of the safely is ensured bya vertical rod of the device.
The reinforcing thread guide arranged in this way is considerably removed from the zone of catching the supplied thread by the needles and consequently cannot be used in knitting feeds arranged for recip rocatory knitting.
In such machines the location ofthe guide is limited bythe needle latches guidefor reciprocatory knitting, on which depends the arrangement ofthe stich cams.
It is an object ofthe present invention to obviate or mitigate the above mentioned disadvantage. Accord ing tothe present inventionthere is provided a circular knitting machineforthe production of hosiery and the like goods, said machine being provided in at least one knitting feed with a reinforcing thread guideto supply thread, while a throat of the reinforcing thread guide in another operating position is just below the hooks of latch needles, wherein a bridge of the knitting feed where there is arranged the reinforcing thread guide, there is a recess into which recess fits the throat of the reinforcing thread guide in the operating position.
The advantage ofthe arrangement according to the present invention consists in that the reinforcing thread guide is protected and the needle latches ofthe needles where there is no thread cannot be damaged by the guide. Consequently the reinforcing thread guide can be located as near as possible to the other guides while maintainingitsfunction and it can be thus used even in machines with reciprocatory operation. The whole device is relatively simple to produce, and adjustment of the reinforcing thread guide is automatically achieved by the position ofthe recess in the bridge.
An embodiment of the present invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings wherein:- Fig lisa schematic embodiment of a knitting feed bridge with illustrated track ofthe needles and of the reinforcing thread guide in an operating position.
Fig 2 is a schematic illustration ofthe arrangement ofthe reinforcing thread guide in the operating position ofthe needle and of the bridge when supplying the th read, Fig 3 is the same view as in Fig 2, but with the thread not in the needles and with the latch closed by the bridge.
Referring to the drawings, a known sinyle-cylinder circular knitting machineforthe production of hosiery is provided with a needle cylinder (not shown) in which there are latch needles controlled by a cam system located in two knitting feeds in both of which therearecamsto raisethelatch needles in normal and reinforcing positions and the reinforcing thread guides.
To explain the invention a reinforcing thread guide 1 of thread Pin a knitting feed arranged for a reciprocatory knitting is illustrated. Beside the reinforcing thread guide 1 there are other guides, out of which onlythe guide 2 is illustrated in an operating position.
All guides are assigned to bridge 3 having the shape of a plate, against which they lean when they are in the operating position. The bridge 3 in its front part assigned to the needles in the zone where there is located the reinforcing thread guide 1 is provided with a vertical edge 31. Said vertical edge 31 extends from the edge of the bridge 3, and a recess 32 is provided in the edge 31, and into said recess 32 fits the throat of the reinforcing thread guide so that is completely hidden in the recess 32, as illustrated in Fig 2. Segment 4 serves to control the needle latches when knitting the heei.
When knitting the fabric when the reinforcing thread
P is supplied, the operation of the above described device is as follows. The needles are divided into two groups. Thus there are the needles 5 of the first group, theirtrackthroughthe knitting feed being illustrated by track 51 of their heads into which the basic thread
P1 is supplied by means ofthe guide 2. Needles 6 of the second group pass through the knittingfeed in the position illustrated by track 61 oftheir heads, while the thread P is supplied into them by means ofthe reinforcing thread guide 1.
When knitting proceeds without trouble and thread
P is supplied into the needles 6, said needles 6 approach the bridge 3 with their latches opened, as illustrated in Fig 2. But if breakage of the thread Uptakes place, the needles 6 approach the bridge with their latches closed or in a horizontal position. With closed latches, as illustrated in Fig 3, their contact with the throat ofthe guide 1, ie with the tube to supply the thread, cannot take place and they cannot be broken away, this being eliminated by the vertical edge 31. In case of opened latches ofthe needles 6 said latches will be fully opened by the edge ofthe bridge 3.
