Abstract

4965. Garrett, F. W. Feb. 26. Lathes; chucks. - Automatically - operated. hollow spindle chucks have a resilient device in the operating-train to compensate for variations in the diameter of bar stock. The cam-lever 4, Fig. 3, has a floating fulcrum 6 controlled by a spring 8. The lever controls a sleeve 3, Fig. 1, similar to the sleeve described in Specification 15,744/08, splined to the spindle and engaging by inclined slots pins on the cam ring 13 which actuates the draw spindle 2. The cam drum or straps may be resiliently mounted or the connexion between the cam and lever or the lever and sleeve may be resilient instead of the fulcrum.
