Tool-holders for lathes, planing machines &c., having locking rollers l in inclined recesses k to engage the tool d<1>, are provided with (1) springs p tu ensure the rollers gripping and (2) a reversely acting roller r to prevent forward movement. The springs comprise a bow-shaped part p<2>, Fig. 7, with notches o<1>, shown in the flat blank Fig. 8, to engage the roller and may have a reversely bowed part p<1> connected thereto by a neck p<3> and having points q to engage recedes in the holder. The roller r is released, when required, by inserting a pin through a hole t.
