Abstract
4255. Roberts, J. Feb. 18. Track apparatus actuating signals on trains and for stopping trains. -A flat sliding valve c interposed in the brakepipe is pulled upon by a spring l and restrained by the engagement of a pin i with a cam-piece k; the pin i being carried by a pivoted train-contact j hinged to the rod n of the valve. When a track contact moves the train contact j past the edge of the piece k, the spring l raises the valve c and opens the brake system. The rod n may also be connected to a warning- device. For v a c u u m brakes, the inlet controlled by the valve c is provided with a grid. A sliding piece, such as the valve c but fitted with an electrical contactmaking plug, may be used to control the circuit of an electrically-operated brake.
