Abstract

23,894. Bassett, J. Oct. 22. Mechanical systems, non-automatic; track apparatus actuating signals on trains.-A ramp A normally raised by springs J is lowered to ' clear ' by a signalman, and a train passing on to the section depresses a ramp A<2> which uncouples the ramp A from the signalman's control, the ramp A<2> being locked until a second similar ramp is depressed. The trolly K, which is raised by contact with a raised ramp A, is connected to a brake valve. When the signal is set to ' clear,' the spindle C is also turned and, through the clutch E, the ramp A is depressed and the springs J are compressed. A train may then pass unaffected over the ramp A and, on reaching a lever A<2>, depresses the latter, and through the levers M, N and the sliding block O, pulls the wire rope U<2>, and through the bell-crank V and rope U, slides the sleeve D along the spindle C so as to uncouple at the clutch E the ramp A from the signal connexions. The springs J raise the ramp A to the ' danger ' position. The spring- pressed trigger R holds the lever A<2> and the sleeve D in this position until the train passes a second apparatus, similar to that shown in Fig. 2, but without the locking-triggers, and pulls the rope U<3> so as to release the trigger R and allow the springs to reset the lever A<2> and to couple the clutch E again so as to restore the apparatus to the control of the signalman.
