Wood, trcating with liquids and gases.-Wood is impregnated, coloured, or softened by heating the raw wood or wood already impregnated with liquid, with steam in a closed vessel, and, when acid substances begin to be formed in the wood, introducing gaseous ammonia, the same ammonia being repeatedly used by reaction between caustic soda lye &c. in the chamber and the ammonium salts formed by reaction between the ammonia and the acids in the wood. The Specification as open to inspection under Section 91 (3) (a) states also that other alkalies than ammonia may be used; this subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
