Lubricant conveyed by mechanical means.- An axle-box for railway and tramway vehicles is lubricated bv means of an oil-raising plate and a scraper, both mounted on the inner side of the cover of the box. The plate 6 is mounted on a short shaft 5 secured to the cover 2, and is rotated by a clamp 8 on the end of the axle, engaging projections 7. The scraper 9 is hinged to the cover 2 at 10, and delivers oil to a conduit 11 supplying the bearing.
