Lubricant conveyed by mechanical means. - An axle-box for railway wagons is lubricated bv means of a centrifugal oil-thrower 22 rotating with the axle 1, which picks up oil from a chamber 25 and delivers it to channels 11 formed on the sides of the axlebox. The oil flows along a channel 16 on the top of the brass 2 to a central hole 17 leading to the journal. The connexion between the channels 11, 16 is formed by a tubular nozzle 13, perforated at 12 and adjusted by a terminal nut 15. An oil reservoir 5 is enclosed by partitions 6, 8, and communicates with the chamber 25 by a hole 7. Two pairs of lugs 24 are cast on the sides of the axle-box to hold pads, which bear against the sides of the axle 1 to retain and filter the oil.
