Channels and reservoirs in axle-boxes.-An axle-box for locomotives is provided with a reservoir for lubricant that can be rendered airtight by means of a cap C containing a leather washer M. When lubrication is desired, the cap is loosened and air enters the reservoir through a groove N. The oil is fed from the reservoir H to the bearing by one or more steel needles I each having at its lower end a brass or like carrier J resting on the axle. The needle fits loosely in a sleeve L, and the carrier has free play in a chamber K.
