Abstract

29,316. Kent, W. G., and Hovenden, E. W. Dec. 19. [Cognate Application, 4818/14.] Mixing liquids in definite proportions.-Relates to Venturi and like apparatus and consists in the provision of a secondary obstruction in the pipe line, the movement of which controls the recording- mechanism or the mechanism for introducing a reagent into the pipe or both. Fig. 1 shows a Venturi tube a, the upstream and throat pressures being led off through pipes b, c respectively. The secondary obstruction d is suspended by links e, g, the link g and arms i, n being fast on the spindle h. A notched quadrant j is also carried by the spindle h and is engaged by the spring-pressed roller m. The arm n controls a four-way cock q to which liquid is supplied by the pipe s. Pipes t lead to a cylinder u, the movements of the piston v altering the reagent control or the recorder, by auxiliary power if required. The pressure pipe s and the exhaust pipe w are put in communication with the two sides of the piston v alternately. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the secondary obstruction is in the form of a disk d which can be swung out of the pipe line by an increase of flow. In this case the piston v must connect and disconnect the pipes c, w to the recorder or the reagent control or both. The Provisional Specification 4818/14 mentions also the use of a throat liner as a secondary obstruction in place of the torpedo-shaped body shown in Fig. 1.
