Abstract
29,236. Pettersson, H. Dec. 18. Balances; relieving- mechanism.-Relates to suspended balances of the type described in Specification 1814/13, wherein the weighbeam 8 and the scalepans or equivalents 6, 7 are suspended from fibres 9, 10 respectively, and comprises means for relieving the suspending-fibres. The apparatus is enclosed in a casing 3, from which the air may be exhausted through a pipe 4, the scale-pans being suspended within glass vessels 5. The two relieving - devices 13, 16 slide upon a vertical bracket 12 and have extended portions projecting into a spiral groove 19 formed upon a rotatable pillar 18. The spiral groove terminates at the upper end in a circular groove, and the arrangement is such that, as the pillar is rotated by means of an exterior handle 24, the devices 13, 16 rise, hooks 15 on the device 13 raise the beam slightly and then remain stationary owing to the circular groove at the top of the pillar, and rings 17 on the device 16 engage cross-bars 11 on the fibres 10 and slightly raise the scalepans, further rotation of the handle 24 being then prevented by a stop at the end of the circular groove in the pillar.
