Abstract
691,183. Indicating liquid levels. EXLEY, L. Feb. 21, 1951 [Feb. 21, 1950]. No. 4461/50. Class 123 (i). [Also in Group XIX]. Liquid level indicating means for a tank 2 comprises a cup-shaped float 15, a float guide such as a vertical perforated tube 1 or an angle bar, not shown, a graduated scale associated-with said guide, a mirror, &c. 17 mounted on the float, a second mirror, &c. 32 spaced above and aligned with the mirror 17, and, preferably, a viewing telescope or eye piece 24. The said scale may be provided on the inner run 9a of an endless tape 9 supported between lower and upper pulleys 10, 12, the run 9a being located within the tube 1 and passing through a slot 15a formed in the wall of the float, and the tape may be fitted with a platform 36 which is normally disposed at the bottom of the tube and is adapted to be raised, by rotation of the pulley 12 in one direction, to grip the float and then, by rotation of the said pulley in the opposite direction, to lower the float below the surface of the liquid in the tank. The tube 1 has an upper supporting flange 3 which is secured to the flange 4 of a branch pipe 5 projecting upwardly from the top of the tank, and the pulley 12, mirror 31 and telescope 24 are mounted on a housing 7 which is also supported on said flange 4 and is closed by a glass panel cover 8. The housing 7 also mounts a torch &c 29, permitting a focussed spot-light to be projected on to the mirror 17, and a turntable cleaner 33 for the mirror 31 which is itself turnable upon a shaft 30.
