Casings.-The discharge passage 13 into which the impeller 6 delivers merges laterally from the throat 9, its outer wall 20 being circular in section, and its inner wall 19 being spiral in order to give the required increase in section. The inner wall 19 forms the outer wall of the suction volute 12. The parts may be water-cooled, and packing- devices 35, 36 are provided. Several impellers may be arranged in series, the combination being immersed in a cooling-tank.
