Disk-supported-blade fans; multi-stage centrifugal fans; casings.-The casing of a single-stage fan is composed of an inlet section 14 and a discharge section 15 and for a multi-stage fan intermediate casing-sections are interposed. The casing-sections are castings and are provided with walls 18, 59, 31, 66, which form chambers in which the impellers 12 rotate; at each side of the impeller chambers annular chambers are formed from which the fluid is fed to the whole periphery of the intake of the impeller and surrounding the impeller are two annular chambers, the outer of which 40, 58<a> is connected by radial passages to the suction chamber 45, 63, the inner chambers 46, 64 connecting the discharge of one impeller to the suction chamber of the next or to the discharge outlet 47. Diffuser blades 72 are fixed in grooves in meeting flanges of the adjacent sections. Intermediate sections have a wall 56 which divides one stage from the next. Casing sections of a standard pattern may be adapted for impellers of differing axial width by making the meeting flanges longer or shorter. Openings 71 are provided for removal of matter deposited in the various conduits.
