Abstract

Stuffing boxes, substitutes for. - Relates to dry gas-meters of the kind described in Specification 15,255/13, [Class 54, Gas distribution], in which the motion of the diaphragms is transmitted directly to the valves by a rocking lever, and consists in means for maintaining a gas-tight joint between the valve chamber and the diaphragm chamber. The rocking lever has a cranked portion b in the line of its pivot, so that this portion oscillates. On this cranked portion a gas-tight joint is made by a collar q, Fig. 3, of which the rubbing surface is formed as a tractrix curve, a vertical flexible diaphragm t, Fig. 4, a flexible sleeve x, Fig. 5, or an ordinary stuffing-box.
