Scoop-arm machines.-In a scoop-arm excavator, the hoisting-cable c is connected to the door of the bucket, and a second rope g is provided for checking the descent of the bucket when the door is allowed to open by slacking the hoisting-cable. As shown, the cable e is connected to the door by a cross-piece c<1> and two chains e passing over pulleys c<2>. The rope g is wound on a drum provided with a hanging weight for keeping the rope taut, and a brake.
