Abstract

Thermal interrupters. - A current limiter of the interrupter type, in which the expansion of a gas due to the heating effect of a resistance coil g causes a flexible diaphragm to open a circuit on the passage of excess current, is provided with two chambers d, e, each filled with a gas or gaseous mixture at respectively different pressures, so that the separating diaphragm c carrying the movable contact is normally maintained against the fixed contact h by the excess pressure in the lower compartment without the necessity of employing springs. The terminals k, o for the circuit wires are secured in a gas-tight manner to the casing, and are made hollow so that the chambers may be exhausted and then filled with the gas or gaseous mixture, the hollow ends being afterwards sealed. The excess pressure in the lower compartment is adjusted according to the maximum current intended to be controlled by the apparatus.
