Spring hinges.-The hinge pin 5 of a ship's hatch 1 carries a spring 7, one end being fixed to the pin and the other to the hatch so that its tension can be adjusted by a ratchet device 12, 14 adapted to rotate the pin. The spring is enclosed in a casing 4 with watertight washers 11.
