Abstract

187,292. Williams, J., and Williams, R. July 12, 1921. Submarine vessels.-A lifesaving boat carried on the deck Z of a submarine is mounted in chocks Y and is secured to the submarine by bolts L passing through spring-controlled hinged arms X and by an escape tube S which is screwed through the bottom of the boat and the deck of the submarine. The release of the boat from the submarine is effected from inside the boat, the bolts L being screwed out from the side of the boat by means of bolts M, which engage with the slotted ends of the bolts L, carried by caps N which at the same time screw over internal flanges surrounding the orifices in the sides of the boat, thereby closing the orifices. When the bolts L are unscrewed, springs A<1> throw the arms X clear of the boat. The escape tube is screwed out of the boat when the manhole cover E is screwed on to the manhole in the bottom of the boat through which the escape tube projects, springs D inside the manhole cover engaging with slots A in the escape tube to effect the unscrewing of the tube.
