Abstract

22,990. Salmson, E. J. J., Canton, G. H. M., and UnnÚ, G. P. Oct. 15,1912, [Convention date]. Fluid relays.-In regulating-apparatus for explosion motors, the throttle valve e of the carburettor is controlled by a servomotor comprising a cylinder a divided by horizontal partitions b, b<1> into three compartments, in the lower two of which independent pistons c, i are adapted to move, these two compartments being put into communication either with the atmosphere or with the suction pipe q of the motor, through the medium of a distributing piston-valve o actuated by a centrifugal governor t driven by the motor. The upper piston i is associated with an oil dash-pot j, k which prevents its abrupt movements during the opening of the throttle valve. The lower piston, the weight of which is over-balanced by the mass u, on the lever d', effects the closing of the throttle, and is capable of rapid movement under the action of the vacuum in the suction pipe and atmospheric pressure through the opening g in the cylinder a, when the motor speed becomes so high as to move the distributing- valve into a position to connect the pipe h with the suction pipe q. The distributing-valve consists of a hollow cylindrical casing open at both ends, in which are four ports, of which 1, 2, 3 connect with the servomotor, and 4 with the suction pipe, the ports being closed and opened by two coupled pistons p, p<1> connected by a lever-system with the centrifugal governor.
