Abstract

22,171. Smith, J. Oct. 2. Ferrules or tips for umbrellas, parasols, and walking-sticks are made with an enlarged lower end to render them less liable to pass into crevices, gratings, &c. in the ground, and to prevent injury to persons when the umbrella &c. is carried at a dangerous angle. Fig. 1 shows a preferably solid part a provided on the ferrule tube b, which is fixed directly to the stick, as by means of a pin &c., or is frictionally held over the ordinary ferrule. The part a may have a small projection upon its under-surface. Figs. 4 and 6 show other forms of ferrule. According to the Provisional Specification, the tube b may be formed with one or more slits.
