Abstract
20,241. Marks, E. C. R., [Royal Typewriter Co]. Sept. 8. Paper and card guiding arrangements.-One or more guide-fingers 15, Fig. 1, are pivoted at 24 on arms 9 attached to the shift rail 1, so that they can be swung down away from the printing line into inoperative position. Each finger is held in operative position by the engagement of a shoulder 32 thereon with a lug 30 on a latch 26 ; when the latch is depressed, the finger is swung over until a second shoulder 29 engages the lug 30 by a coiled spring 28 mounted on the pivot 24 and engaging the latch 26 and finger 15. The latch may be pivoted centrally and arranged so that the finger is released by elevating the latch. In the modification shown in Fig. 8, the finger is mounted on a stud 39, through which passes a spring-pressed bolt 41 engaging an aperture in a place 48 on the finger. When the bolt 41 is withdrawn, the finger is swung over by a coiled spring 50 on the stud 39. A forked bell-crank lever 51 may be provided to withdraw the bolt. In another modification, shown in Fig. 13, the finger 59 is mounted on a pivot 60 parallel with the platen, and is held in position by the frictional contact of a shoulder 58 with the scale 13. Pluten scales. - The scale 13 is adjustably mounted on the arms 9 by screws passing through square holes in the arms.
