Abstract

14,410. Imray, O., [Colt's Patent Fire-arms Manufacturing Co.]. June 21. Breech actions, sliding barrel and breechblock. - Relates to automatic firearms, especially pistols of the kind described in Specifications 24,241/10, 4605/11, 4606/11, and 4607/11, and consists in a special member for locking the breech-slide, which member may also be combined with means for locking the firing-mechanism and for securing the pivots of the firing-mechanism in place. The member k is pivoted at the side of the frame by an integral pivot pin k<1> which also forms the pivot of the grip safety-lever w. The member k is adapted to be turned up by means of a thumbpiece k<2> to engage a shoulder on the breech-slide c. Projecting inwards from the slide-lock k through an arcuate slot in the breech-frame is a stud k<3>, Figs. 4 and 5, adapted to lock either the sear r and the hammer q, or both. This stud is undercut to engage the edge of the slot which is enlarged at the middle, as shown in 4, Fig. 5, to allow the slide-lock to be removed when it is in its intermediate position. In the forin shown, the slide-lock is a plate which covers the pivots r<1>, q<2> of the sear and hammer, and prevents their removal. The slide-lock is held in either of its extreme positions by a spring detent comprising a sliding bolt l<1> pressed outwards by a spring l<3> which is mounted in a cylinder l. At the other end of the cylinder, the spring l<3> acts on a second bolt l<2> which forms a detent for the lever described in Specification 24,241/10. The cylinder l is restricted at the front end, but not at the rear, and, to prevent the spring from flying out when the slide lock is removed, it is bent as shown in Fig. 7 so as to be lightly retained in the cylinder by friction.
