Openers and scutchers.-To obtain increased vibratory action of the grid over which the cotton travels while being acted upon by the beater b, the grid is composed of corrugated or wavy bevelled section steel bars c, mounted at each end in curved brackets d and separated by V-shaped buffers e of leather. The bars are secured in position in tho brackets d by setscrews f. A pivoted damper g may be provided below the grid. The bars may be arranged parallel to the sides of the machine.
