[Addition to 9354/13.] Starting, facilitating.-A pump as described in the parent Specification is arranged to be selfpriming by connecting the bottoms of the spaces between the vanes with an air-discharge pipe at a point such as g, Fig. 2, remote from the segmental inlet e. The ring f may have a groove leading to the pipe g, and the pressure in the space discharging its air may be increased by a pipe k connecting the space with the discharge pipe. On starting, a valve in the delivery pipe is closed, the pump case is half filled with water, and the impeller rotated. The air in the suction-pipe is pocketed in the spaces between the blades and is removed by the pipe g. The air may be led to the blade spaces by a pipe n connected with the top of the suction pipe c. In a modification, Fig. 3, a second stationary tule f<x> is arranged so that the air is pocketed between it and the suction tube f. In a further modification rotary blades are arranged in the tube f. Pressure fluid may be supplied to the inner periphery of the impeller to prevent leakage of air backwards. The check valve in the delivery pipe may be spring-loaded.
