Abstract

11,203. Flannery, W. C. May 13. Conduits, sewers, &c.-Lining-tiles 17 are supported by split iron rings, and the whole is completely enveloped by concrete. The tiles have lateral grooves into which the flanges 9 of the T-irons 7 pass, the tiles being threaded upon the rings at an opening 8. The rib 10 of the rings rests iu notches 3 in an invert-girder 1. When all the tiles are in place, the ends of the rings are joined by plates 13 and rivets 14. Longitudinal rods 21 may be embedded in the concrete envelope and anchored to the rings by ties 22. When required, the girder 1 may rest on piles or be encased in a concrete invert, which may contain a drain-pipe. Exterior to the concrete, there may be another layer of tiles similarly supported ; this layer may take the form of an arch. Fig. 15 shows a modified arrangement, in which tiles 29 are attached to plain bands 25 embedded in invert blocks 26 by wire fasteners, one of which is shown in Fig. 18. The portions 31, 32 of the fastener engage grooves 30 in the tiles, and the U-shaped ends pass around the bands 25.
