Abstract
11,104. Steimmig, F. Feb. 15, [Convention date]. Xanthates.-Filaments or films are prepared by squirting viscose into a setting-bath composed of a solution of a neutral salt, to which a small percentage of an ammonium salt such as ammonium sulphate has been added to neutralize the effect of the free alkali in the viscose. Suitable neutral salts are common salt, Glauber's salt, or magnesium or calcium chloride, and a ten per cent addition of ammonium sulphate gives excellent results. Organic substances such as glycerine or other tertiary alcohol, or oxidizing or reducing agents such as are used in the case. of acid baths, or metal salts may be added to the bath. Specifications 8700/92, 1020/98, and 1022/98 are referred to.
