Abstract

8927. Gardner, H. April 16. Chucks.-Eccentric circular cam-slots &c. for self-centring chucks are set out as follows. In the case of three-jaw chucks, lines 0 Y1, 0 X1 are drawn at 120 degrees and points U, T are taken in these lines, the difference of their distances from the centre O being equal to the travel required. An equilateral triangle T P U is then drawn on the same side of T U as the centre 0, and an arc is drawn through T U, this arc being a portion of the circle circumscribing the triangle, thus giving the centreline of the cam-slot &c. For four-jaw chucks, corresponding points T1 U1 are taken on lines at right-angles and a square on T U is drawn, the circumscribing circle giving the requisite arc.
