Abstract

8629. Gill, H. A., [Fabrique Nationale d'Armes de Guerre, Soc. Anon.]. April 12. Breech actions, sliding breech-block.-Relates to guns having magazines in which the cartridges are carried parallel to the barrel, and consists in maintaining the foremost cartridge parallel, while it is being fed into the breech, by guiding the rim in inclined grooves and the nose on an inclined surface. The invention is shown applied to a gun in which the cartridges are fed forwards from a tubular magazine. While passing from the magazine to the barrel, the cartridge is guided by the block 3, shown detached in Fig. 4, which has an inclined front surface 7 for guiding the nose of the cartridge and inclined grooves 6 for guiding the rim. During the insertion of one cartridge into the breech, the others are held back by a pivoted detent 10, Fig. 5, which is controlled by the breech-block. The cartridge cases are ejected downwards, and the ejecting-stop 20 is formed on the guide-block 3. When the breech is open, as shown in Fig. 2, a spring pin 16 supports the foremost cartridge. Specification 8630/13 is referred to.
