Abstract

8153. Sykes' Interlocking S i g n a l Co., W. R., and Tarrant, R. W. April 7. Hand - levers, interlocking ; locking signals etc.; slots, reversers, and like apparatus. - Locking-mechanism of the kind described in Specification 1422/09, c o mprising a locking-bolt 21 and a pair of members 28 adapted to be moved in opposite directions and controlled by a movable stop 30, is so constructed that the act of giving permission to release the lock does not directly move the stop but couples it to the locking-bolt so that the locking-bolt in moving removes the stop. In the electromagnetic apparatus shown, which is intended for use as a lock upon a railway points or signal handlever, the core of the solenoid 33 is made in two parts; the lower part 32 carries the movable stop 30, and the upper part 34 is attached to the bolt 21 by a rod 35. When the solenoid is energized, the parts of the core, being magnetized, hold together and the upper part 34, as it is lifted with the bolt, carries with it the lower part 32 and the stop 30. The parts of the solenoid are separated by a piece of brass 36<a> and a second piece is interposed between the lower part 32 and the wedge-piece 30 which forms the stop. The stop 30 and the upper end 26 of the bolt 21 are formed as equal wedges, so that as one leaves the members 28, the other engages them. The casing 29 containing the members 28 is placed in a socket 43 which assists it in withstanding the bursting stress occasioned when an attempt is made to move the bolt 21 upwards before the magnet 33 is energized. The bolt 21 is shown as a lock upon a tappet bar 22 and is provided with a cam extension 39<a> which, as the tappet bar moves to the end of its stroke. is engaged by a pin 37 on the bar and ensures the movement of the bolt into a notch in the bar 22. Specification 12,757/11 also is referred to.
