Abstract

7950. Payne, E. G., and Treen, R. J. April 4. Seat adjustments.-The back A of a seat, Fig. 1, is hinged to the seat at T and is angularly adjustable by a toothed quadrant D and a ball catch H. The quadrant D is fixed to a shaft E and is connected to the back of the seat by a link J. The other end of the shaft E carries a lever L, Fig. 2, connected to the back of the seat by a second link J. The catch consists of a rotatable spindle P having a recess R above which is a loose ball H adapted to take into the teeth of the quadrant D. When the spindle P is rotated, the ball H drops into the recess R and allows the quadrant to rotate as the back is adjusted. The back is returned to the vertical position when pressure is removed by a spring W. Instead of a rotatable spindle P, a sliding spindle P, Fig. 3, may be employed, having a recess R<3> for the ball H.
