7113. Rohr, O. P. March 25. Hydraulic rams. - Relates to hydraulic - ram pumps of the type in which there is a reciprocating piston operated by the momentum of the water. As shown in Fig. 2, the flow of water in the passage 1 has just deflected a lever 5 to strike the lower projection 12 and so close a valve 4. The water is now forced into the pump chamber 7 through a passage (not shown), and also depresses a piston 25 to cause the pump piston 26<1> to force water from the lower cylinder 11 through a valve 8. The flow of water in the passage 1<1> then reverses the lever 5 to close the valve 4<1>, so that water is forced by the piston 26 from the upper cylinder 11.
