Abstract

7096. Burghardt, L. R. March 25. Compose and helical springs; connexions and attachments applicable generally for tensile and compressive springs.-Relates to vehicle shock-absorbers of the type comprising a cylinder closed at its ends between which and a centraldisk in the cylinder are arranged two helical springs in compression, which resist the movements of the disk in the cylinder, and consists (1) in closing the ends of the cylinder by screw caps, (2) in constructing the springs of approximately the same internal diameter as the cylinder, and (3) in providing the disk with trunnions which slide in longitudinal slots in the cylinder and are journaled in a forked member on the end of an arm fixed to the vehicle frame. In the form shown in section in Fig. 1, a cylinder 10, having longitudinal slots 15 in which slide the trunnions 17, 18 of a disk 16, is attached to a collar 13 secured to the vehicle laminar springs. Between the disk 16 and caps 11, 12 screwed on the ends of the cylinder are compressed helical springs 19, 20. The trunnions 17, 18 are pivoted in bearings 25, 26 of a forked arm 22, Fig. 7, secured to the vehicle frame.
