Abstract
17,039. LÚon, J. July 21. Composite springs; india rubber springs; vibration dampers ; con. nexions, attachments, and adjustments applicable generally for tensile and compressive springs.- Consists in supplementing the ordinary bearing-springs of motor-cars and like vehicles by the action of cam-shaped plates which are pressed apart against the acton of auxilary springs by the relative vertical movements between the chassis and axle. A casing A, Fig. 1, trunnioned in a forked bracket F, h secured to the spring R, carries two plates B, formed with cam-surfaces b and adapted to he pressed apart against the action of helical, laminated, pneumatic, or other springs d by a nut C on a rod c, which is jointed to an arm D on the chassis. The parts are arranged so that the widest portions a of the plates B reach the nut C when the spring R is horizontal. In a modification, only one plate B is used, the nut C sliding between this plate and one wall of the casing A. In another form, Fig. 5, the nut G is on a rod H connected to the axle K through a universal joint, and slides between tapered ribs F formed upon three segmental portions E, which surround the rod H and are pressed outwards by the nut against rubber rings D. Under normal conditions, the nut G is situated in a recess M formed at the centre of the ribs F.
