Abstract
3710. Baird, A. H., and Turner, W. J. Feb. 13. Exhaust-silencers.- A segmental ring E surrounds and is attached to a revolving- cylinder engine. The ring is divided into four circular chambers A, B, C, D of different cross-section; A being the smallest and D the largest. The exhaust outlets of the cylinders are connected in threes by two pipes to the chamber A, the gases passing from one chamber to the other by perforations in the dividing- walls and escaping to atmosphere by tangential and rearwardly - directed outlets h from the chamber D. The chambers may be divided into two so as to form separate silencers for each set of cylinders. In a modification, the chambers are formed by four tubes of different diameters, the tubes surrounding the cylinders.
