Abstract

2578. Boak, R. F., [Boak, C. F.]. July 22. Generators.-A gas generator comprises an horizontally-arranged retort consisting of a trough-shaped lower part 6, Fig. 3, supporting an upper part consisting of tuyere blocks 5, fuel being under-fed to the retort, which is enclosed by a casing having a water lute. The tuyere blocks are hollow and are supported on a flange 52 having slots in which lugs on the tuyere blocks fit. Air, steam, or exhaust gas, or a mixture of these, pass from an annular casing 3 along upper passages 28, 29, Fig. 4, in the tuyere blocks and reach the fuel through openings 44 formed in an end chamber 30 and in lower passages 32, 33; these passages are separated by a web 31, the lower passages 32, 33 having no direct connexion with the casing 3. The exhaust steam from the engine may be led by a pipe 47 to the main blast supply passage 4.
