Abstract

24,935. Schmidt, P. Nov. 16. Gas - producers. -Relates to producers in which the gases containing tar, generated at the top of the fuel, are drawn off and injected by a steam injector into the lower part of the fuel column. These gases escape from the generator a by channels b to a downdraught pipe c, and are injected by the injector d into the hottest zone of the column. From this zone, a pipe e leads to the top of the pipe c, so that hot gases are drawn into the latter, and mix with the colder gases containing tar, preventing condensation. Dampers f are provided to regulate the amount of gas from each zone. In another form, Fig. 4, the downdraught pipe c is jacketed by a pipe t supplied with hot gas by a pipe s connected with the dischargepipe g. An inclined grate k, which may be flat or convex, is used, and may be arranged above a box m serving as an ashpit and also for admitting the air-blast, or may overhang the water seal, Fig. 4. The openings in the grate nearest the lower end of the pipe c are made larger than the others, so as to supply more air at this point. Stoking-holes o are provided above the grate, and others may be placed above these on the same or on the opposite side, Fig. 4. The discharge-pipe g has a shut-off valve to enable the gases to be blown out on starting, and the pipe c has a dust-collector l.
