Couplings, disconnectible.-Relates to hose couplings of the type in which a swivelling collar d on each member has claws e engaging behind inclined flanges on the other member, and is held in place by a ring h carrying a packing-ring m. Water-tight joints are formed between the ring d, the flange b of the tailpiece a, and the ring h, by an annular bead on one part having line contact with an annular recess in the other part. As shown in Fig. 2, the beads c, i are triangular in section with an angle of 90 degrees, and the recesses g, k are triangular with an angle of 60 degrees, so that a line contact is formed along each edge of the recesses. Various cross-sections of bead and recess may be used, for example the beads may be semicircular or form parts of spheres, and the recesses may be rectangular. Each bead may give a single line contact only. Joint between the ring h and flange b may be made by a washer l, or a bead on one may bear against a U-section washer in a recess in the other. The ring h may be retained in place in any suitable way such as spinning over the faces of the ring d and tail-pieces a, or by set screws. Fig. 2 shows a set-screw n projecting into a groove in the ring. In the form shown in Fig. 5, the cheese-head of a screw w engages a groove in the ring, which has particular notches y to allow insertion of the screws from the face of the coupling.
