Abstract

Spring wheels with continuous outer rigid ring and pneumatic cushions.-Inner and outer wheel members, separated by a pneumatic tube, or metal springs the. form of which is not described, are separately driven at the same rate. The outer wheel member consists of a metal rim 1, formed with a plate 2 carrying a sleeve 15 to which the driving-gear is fixed, and fitted with a detachable plate 3 having a sliding engagement with plates 32, 32, at the hub. The plates 2, 3 are connected by bolts 38, which may pass through holes 37 to make the wheel rigid. The sides of the inner rim are tapered to a thin edge. In a modification, only the outer wheel member is driven, and it is connected to the inner rim by pivoted links or other means for transmitting the drive.
