Abstract

24,127. McKechnie, J. Oct. 22. Regulating delivery by opening delivery valves; valves, arrangement of.-In devices of the kind described in Specifications 27,579/10 and 26,227/11, [Class 69 (ii), Hydraulic presses &c.], in which a fuel pump B injects liquid fuel at high pressure into the cylinder by means of a pressure accumulator, an excess of fuel is pumped, the excess being passed back by a relief valve E which is loaded to a predetermined pressure, and the quantity of fuel delivered is regulated by varying the timing of the delivery valve F, which also acts as the injection valve. In the form shown in Fig. 1, which relates to single-cylinder engines, the injection valve is contained in the same casing as the pump &c., but in other forms it is detached. The timing-apparatus for the injection valve, of which several forms are described, is shown as a sliding cam f, but it may comprise a cam-actuated lever having a movable fulcrum arranged upon an eccentric or swinging arm under the control of the driver. The valve F may have an extension passing through a gland to the atmosphere to balance it.
