Abstract

23,567. Cooper, E. H., and Earle, S. B. Oct. 15. Razors, safety. The blade-holder carrying a detachable blade i s pivoted in a U-shaped frame and is adjustably controlled by the rod 7, tail-piece 5, and link 6 through the rotary movement of a cap 14 on the rod, which has a stud engaging an inclined groove in the handle. The groove has two slightly inclined ends 8. 8<b> for the shaving and cleaning positions, Figs. 2 and 5, respectively, and an intermediate more inclined part 8<a> to give a quick motion to the blade in the intermediate positions. The pivoted guard 9 is connected by projections 12 and links 13 to a wire spring 10 so that it is held in the shaving and stropping positions, and is yieldingly and adjustably pressed by the blade, so that by moving the blade, the projection of the guard beyond the' cutting - edge can be varied. If adjustment of the blade in relation to the guard is not desired, only a fixed movement of the rod 7 is required. The rod may be controlled by a screwed cap engaging two screwed parts on the handle, the part intermediate to the screws on the handle serving for a quick motion of the blade. The rod may be connected directly to the blade, the link 6 being dispensed with. The guard is preferably . provided with side lugs to prevent injury by the corners of the blade.
